Dear Larry,
May '99

Women in Ministry

GOD kept me basically ignorant on this subject, except to affirm the likes of
Arthur, Briscoe, Hickey + Jacobs as called to be His holy 3rd part; Joni Tada is there.

GOD also showed me that each obeyed 1Cor7; 14 1Tim2:12, in that 2Cor3 starts
at Jn14 to test our obedient faith to GOD only, so Rom2:13; 6:16; 7:22 into 8:1-4.

GOD, this month, showed this lack in general, by women seeking to over-rule or
dominate men, in the dying churches or the mainline sects; so cursed 2Tim2+3.

GOD led me to an ELCA city church several times to listen, share, watch, hoping for
Jn14 level Spirit contacts 1Cor2, but instead Jesus' life, power, truth is 100% rejected Jn6.

love,
Robert

Jn6:63.."It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
64 "But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.
65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father."
66 From that many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

2Cor3:6..not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him into all things, which is the head, Christ.  Eph4

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from
the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone
teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true,
and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.  1Jn2

TILL

6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.  1Jn2

6a Whoever abides in Him does not sin.  1Jn3

GOD's 3part church, 4 levels

16 That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts
through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all the saints what the width and length and depth and height -
19 To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of GOD.

13 Till we all come to the unity of the faith,.. and of the knowledge of the Son of GOD,.. to a perfect man,.. to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;    Eph3,4

2 A Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the LORD erected, and not man.

3 And behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All,
4 Which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant.

19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way which He
consecrated for us, through the veil, His flesh,
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.    Heb8,9,10

GOD grows His church: from babes to children,
from children to young men or holy in Christ,
then a handful into His image Rom8:29 1Cor4:15.

GOD's 3rd part Zech13:9 is His grain, seed, holy,
Rom12:1 Phil3 1Pet2:5,9 1Cor1:30 1Jn3:6,
His true temple 1Cor3:16,17; 6 Eph2; 4:24; 5:27 now.

GOD's covenant or heavenly promise is in Christ,
if we continue to be sealed 2Cor1:20-22; 3:6; 5:5,
if we copy Abraham Rom4:12,16 Gal3 Jam1:12 now.

GOD's Holiest is thru His fire, His blood 1Jn1:7,
His water Jn3:5 Ps66:8-12 Rom6 Tit3:5 1Pet3:21,
all a Job33 experience and a work of obedient faith.

GOD's word to Luther, "the just live by faith," has been corrupted till all references to
His repeated demand for obedience are denied, ignored, rejected, so Mat12:31.

GOD's clear demand for obedient faith from Gen2 thru Mat19:17 Heb5:9 till Rev22:14 is
supported by 100s of scriptures, but the Judas church teaches against Him and His holy word.

GOD clearly says "the doers of the law will be (yet to be) justified" Rom2:13, totally
rejected, as you teach against His law, 100% contrary to Bible truth, so again Mat12:31.

GOD clearly says "be doers of the word..faith without works is dead" Jam1:22; 2:20, yet
even "demons believe" Mat8:29 Jam2:19, so the current church merely copies demons.

GOD has graced you with a fine mind, but you are still in gross darkness 2Cor4:3,4,
a mickey mouth Christian, believing fables of evil men, desperately in need of Truth, Christ.

GOD graced Aquinas with a brilliant mind, but He later revealed his work was straw,
but Aquinas lacked faith, penned no more and died a sinner 3 months later 1Cor3:15; 5:5.

GOD is gracing you to grow (thru obedience) into His Acts1:8; 9:17 level to hear Truth,
then to prove your faith thru teaching Bible truth and maybe grow into Him, all Truth.

GOD's clear, precise salvation plan begins with confessing (an act) 1Cor12:3,
as Paul, Acts9:5 "who are You, Lord?...Lord, what do You want me to do?,"
yet still cold, in the way, mouth, sinner.

GOD's salvation plan then demands obedience for "power into," as Paul, Acts9:6-17
even to see 9:18, confirmed in Jn14 Acts1:8; 5:32 1Pet1:22 obey the Spirit,
so Rom1:16 "into (soul) salvation," Rom10:10.

GOD's salvation plan treats mouth and anointed as spirit saved only,
as Esau and Judas, failing or rejecting to obey Him Rom6:16, so Mat10:28
1Cor3:15; 5:5; 15:22a, still carnal, flesh.

GOD's salvation plan says 2parts die Ps1:5 Zech13:8 1Pet4:18, qualified in
Rom6:23a; 8:6,13; 9:13, in His wrath Jn3:36 Rom1:18; 2:8; 9 Eph2:3; 5:6 Col3:6
2Thes1:8,9, then to outer dark 2Pet2 Jude.

GOD's salvation plan declares 2parts naked Gen3:7 Ezek Hos2:3 Mk14:52 Acts19:16
Rev16:15 so Mat8:12; 22:13; 25:30 (2Cor5:2,3 Rev3:18 for few) as most join
Jn11:44 dumb, no glory, 4th day rising.

GOD's salvation plan soul saves a few copying Abraham Acts14:22 1Pet1:9 and Job33
Mat16:26 till "believe to the saving of the soul" Heb10:39, then enduring
Mk13:13 Rom8:23-25 1Thes5:23 Heb3:6,14.

GOD's full salvation plan is complete for us at the 1st resurrection
Rev20:6 Lk20:35,36 1Cor15:22b, joining Him Rev19:7,8 to judge 1Thes3:13
Rev14; 17:14; 19; 20:4 (3:9), then comes Rev20:11-15, then 2Pet3:10.

GOD's holiness, His purity, His light is beyond mortal comprehension, yet ELCA and others
teach mere confessing believers are His image or have His nature, so denying Him.

GOD's word clearly says Adam was His image and His grace, love, power redeems a few
or restores a few or re-establishes a few, as very few truly believe and truly obey Him.

GOD's process or work of calling us into belief, obedience preceed His work of Col2 1Jn1:7,
totally ignored and mistaught by the Judas church, we must Lk12:50 Rom6 as Him.

GOD alone baptises, circumcises, cleans or fire purges us into His holy, pure image
to walk as Him, then we enter His life, His kingdom, His joy, His presence, union.

GOD enters some to clean us to be His holy temple Jn2:15,16 changing our nature Jn2:6-10,
so we may grow into Him Eph4:15 or 1Jn2:24,27 into 1Jn3:6,9 or Jn14 into Jn15 or Zech13:9.

GOD's word clearly says justification (right), redemption, sanctification are gifts in Him,
proved in the process of repentance, baptism, remission (ceasing), then into His great gift.

GOD's nature never abides in mere confessors copying demons Mat8:29-31 Jam2:19, nor in
anointed (lukewarm) but grows from Rom6:11-13 level, thru 6:14, then full in 8:14,29 level.

GOD's perfect body Jn17:20-23 Col1:28 shares His death in blood, disgrace, pain
to be true fellow-partakers, but the Judas church teaches a sinners' communion.

GOD's perfect body overcomes satan, self, sin daily to truly abide Jn15 1Jn1:5,6
having completed fire baptism Rom6 2Cor4:10 into 11 or 1Jn1:7 into 3:6,9; 5:4,18 Rev2;3.

GOD's perfect body is His true bread and our suffering, from 100% obedience to Him,
is us showing His death in our flesh 2Cor4:11, our true communion with Him.

GOD's perfect body is His fragrant firstfruits, but the Judas church is stench in His nose.

Jn17..20 I do not pray for these alone, but also those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 That they all may be one, as You, Father, in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You loved Me.

2Cor4..11 For we who live are alway delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

1Jn1..5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that GOD is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

Man and Woman can be one in Christ.

Recently I was asked to co-sign a statement on Biblical manhood and womanhood prepared and signed by several dozen evangelical scholars and leaders. The document's constitution-like set of scriptural affirmations and denials aimed to answer the modern need for clarification of the roles of each gender in a society where the distinct place of each has become blurred.
I almost signed. In light of the clear, contemporary call of the Holy Spirit to awaken Christian men to their role as men, I so wanted to add my name to such a needed statement!
But I ended up writing the brother who had invited my endorsement: "Sorry, I can't do it." As good as the work was I believe it was only almost right.
The central weakness of the document, in my view, was a proposition stating that the Bible's placement of men as first, in terms of providing leadership, is based on a supposedly GOD-ordered preferential appointment of male over female at the time of creation. In other words, the paper's position was not simply that man has been assigned a leadership role in GOD's order, but that he was created with it. When I read this, my mental brakes locked and I screeched to a stop.
My concern was more than academic. With the welcomed and widespread rise of attention coming to men's ministries throughout the body of Christ today, I rejoice in any call to Biblical manhood. I say, "Amen!" Let's retool every man for it, with all the implications true Biblical manhood holds for husbands and fathers in assuming their responsible role - and for every believing man in responding to the Master's call to devotion, discipleship and dutiful evangelism.
And let's assert that men are to lead - to step forth first - not as substitutes for women, but as servants who lead the way so that others realize GOD's fullest potential for them. Men are ordained to lead. But the fact that the Word of GOD calls men "first" should not be founded on a worn-out ecclesiastical dogma persisting today. This "firstness" and its way of service must be established on divine revelation - on the facts of Scripture, not on the chauvinistic disposition of church tradition.
GOD's intent. Let me put it plainly: There is no way that male authority or leadership over women can be properly deduced from the Bible as being the original intent of GOD. The Bible does show man as being assigned a distinct initiating responsibility with reference to the woman, but he is not assigned a higher authority. The combined records of the creation in Genesis 1-2 establish two facts about the first pair:

     * They were given equal authority (see Gen. 1:27,28).
     * The man was assigned a distinct responsibility. He was the one responsible to relay, share and beget this mutuality of partnership with the woman, who, solely by reason of creative sequence, arrived later (see Gen. 2:7-25).
In short, before the fall of man the divine order for rule, for dominion, for leadership was entirely equal between the first man and woman. Theirs was an untainted joint-rule over all the earth and the affairs assigned to them by the Creator. At the creation there was no submission of the woman to the man enjoined - only the submission of both to their Maker, and to His divine order for the fulfilling of their destiny. ("Egalitarian" is the term often used by those who hold that men and women have equal roles, and this original order was exactly that. But please note: I am not arguing for the "egalitarianism" being demanded by evangelical feminists, as the following paragraphs will attest).
A new order. In contrast to the male/female partnership in dominion before the fall of man, a new order was decreed by Father GOD after the fall - an order which both assigns the man's role to lead and, at the same time, asserts that the woman will likely chafe under the new order. Genesis 3:16 not only introduces the woman to the fact that childbirth with travail will now be hers (something her pre-fall condition might have averted), but another pre-fall condition is altered by the words your desire shall be toward your husband."
This phrase has been subjected to many interpretations, but too seldom the correct one. The Hebrew verb teshuquah essentially asserts a quest for dominance: "You will want to overcome or over-rule your husband-to lead him." It's an obvious reference to the fact that because she had held an equal role, GOD's new post-fall edict would be a tough pill for her to swallow. And understandably so, given that an inner sense of equality in dominion was created in both the male and female of the human species (not to mention the fact that both have been given equal creative potential and skills for leading to this day).
But GOD was establishing a new order, intended for the redemptive process He was setting in place - in contrast to the originally arranged creative order which had been violated and rendered dysfunctional. In other words, the man's leading role was not by virtue of creation, but rather was instituted as a provisional part of the redemptive process GOD set forth.
If one holds that the male is to lead because he is preferred by sovereign choice, the obvious question is: "What is the desired, ultimate objective in this structure of things - benevolent mastery?" Truthfully answered, that can be the only possible conclusion if the original order puts the man over the woman. And such a proposition carries with it a whole trainload of problems, not only where the concept is misapplied, but in the limits it reaches when it finally arrives at its "best case" goal: half the race is kept at a slightly inferior place.
In contrast, if GOD assigned the male's leadership role after the fall as a means of setting forth a redemptive policy, a much higher goal is plainly in view. The target of GOD's postfall assignment of the man's responsibility to lead (not with privileged power or authority, but in the likeness of Christ, who came not to master but to serve) is clearly the recovery of the original order - of both male and female being restored to equal dominion.[if Ps66:12 into 91:1 or Gen3:24 Rom14:17.]

In my small book, A Man's Starting Place (Living Way, 1992), I expand on this concept which I believe is not only fully scriptural, but ends in accomplishing what we would expect GOD's redemptive operations to always achieve: the fullest dignity and nobility for every human being who opens to this program of full salvation [1Thes 5:23] through His Son, Jesus Christ.
An awakening. This month I'll be one of nearly 50,000 men who will meet for the National Men's Conference in Boulder, Colorado, July 30-31. I'll not only be there because I'm privileged to be asked to address this incredible gathering, but because I like the fundamental premise inherent in the name of the organization calling the men together: "Promise Keepers."
I'm not suggesting that Promise Keepers has made a specific statement like mine in this article, but it is clear that their focus is in the spirit of the distinction I've drawn here. They are targeting the cultivation of a generation of men who keep their commitments, who serve their purpose under Christ and who see their leadership role as servants and not as masters.
I am of the conviction that this "men's awakening" (for that's what many are calling it) is one of the most pivotal things happening in the Holy Spirit's strategy for the close of this century.
Yes Sir, my brother, go for it! Rise to take your leading role. And as we do that together, expect the end result to be the fullest realization of both men and women's purposes under GOD. Not the submersion of one sex at the expense of the other, as though GOD had ordained one as secondary - but the emersion of men and women as partners unto GOD's highest destiny for all of us in Christ. [if 1Jn2:6]

JULY/AUGUST 1993 - MINISTRIES TODAY

BY JACK HAYFORD

In the authentic letters of Paul, women are singled out by name and given titles the same as or comparable to those held by male leaders. Prisca, a traveling missionary, is described by Paul as a peer, a "co-worker." Phoebe, in Cenchreae, is called a diakonos, a title Paul also gives himself.

Gal3:28... there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

1Jn2:6... He  who  says  he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

GOD's intent has essentially not changed from Gen1:27-31 to Gal3:26-29,
His desire for mankind to have dominion, as an heir or partner, continues
(despite the interruption of man's fall into sin), but few meet His holy
standard thru obedient faith to join Him (as Abraham) into all eternity.

GOD's Biblical standard has been perverted by the Judas church, but
some men and women "strive to enter" till a few become His elect or
chosen 2Pet1:10 into 11 or 1Jn2:20-28 into 1Jn3-5, grafted into His true vine
in Christ, overcoming satan, self, sin as Christ; not as satan's sinners.

GOD's grafting process is ignored by the Judas church, claiming His holy promises,
but still living as demons, mickey mouth Christians believing fables and myths, so
mocking His word from Gen to Rev that obedient faith is essential for soul salvation,
true eternal life thru the 1st resurrection of the holy ones; all others face death.

1Cor11:11...    neither man independant of woman, nor woman
independant of man, in the LORD.

15:22b...  in Christ all shall be made alive.

15:23...    each one in his own order: Christ, (then)
the firstfruits, afterward those (who are) Christ's
at His coming.   1Thes4:15-17 (James1:18 Rev14:4)

Fourth Presbyterian gets 1st female senior pastor

Chicago Sun-Times
Thursday, December 13, 2001
By Cathleen Falsani
Religion Reporter

Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church has called a woman as senior pastor for the first time in its storied 130-year history.

And not just any woman.

The Rev. Joanna Adams is a real pistol. Kind of a cross between Bette Midler and one of those quintessential Southern ladies in "Steel Magnolias."

Adams, 57, who will begin serving as Fourth Church's co-pastor with the Rev. John Buchanan on St. Patrick's Day, comes to the 4,700-member congregation on the Magnificent Mile from Trinity Church in Atlanta.

"I've never lived above the Mason-Dixon line," Adams quipped during a phone interview from her office in Atlanta. "I understand there are people in other parts of the country who don't know any better than to put sugar on their grits."

She says she plans to give Chicagoans "a cultural education," among other things.

Those who know her say Adams' Chicago congregation is in store for much more than that.

"She is one of the greatest preachers in this denomination and one of the great preachers, really, in the Christian world," said the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, stated clerk of the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA, its highest-ranking official.

Adams' reputation for preaching is well-deserved, Buchanan said, adding, "She's a sharp administrator. Her church is an outstanding congregation. She's a warmhearted human being and people instantly feel a rapport with her."

With more than 2,000 members, Trinity is the largest church in the Presbyterian Church USA to be pastored by a woman. Fourth Church now has four associate pastors who are women and has had women ministers serving the congregation for many years, said Buchanan, who has been senior pastor since 1985.

When Buchanan, 63, retires "sometime in the next few years," Adams is expected to take over as solo senior pastor. Many churches in the Presbyterian Church USA, particular large churches, have co-pastors.

Adams, whose husband, Alfred, is a partner in the law firm Holland and Knight, said she was attracted to Fourth Church because of its commitment to social action and its relationship with the inter-religious community.

In Atlanta, the straight-talking mother of two grown children, who was ordained in 1979, made her reputation working tirelessly on behalf of that city's homeless, work she intends to continue here.

"I guess on the surface it seems sort of odd that a Southern woman would be coming to serve a church in the heart of Chicago, but for some reason it seems natural to me," Adams said.

"How her down-home preaching style will play in upscale Fourth Church Chicago will be real interesting," said the Rev. Jerry Van Marter, director of Presbyterian News Service. "She'll stand them on their ear."

Commendations

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Joanna Adams is a person of deep faith. As pastor and preacher she helps all who hear her and know her to articulate their own faith in Jesus Christ more adequately and to reach deeper levels of discipleship. Joanna Adams and Fourth Church wll be a marvelous match."

--Jack Stotts, President Emeritus of Austin Theological Seminary and former President of McCormick Theological Seminary and Interim Pastor at Fourth Church
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Joanna is at the top of my list because of her administrative ability, her preaching, and her leadership. Fourth Church doesn't need someone who will only reassure and comfort(though she can do that as well as anyone--she's a fine pastor). You need someone who forthright preaches the Gospel, including the challenge of the Gospel. Joanna does that as well as anyone in the Presbyterian church. This position is important not only for Fourth Church but for a whole denomination, because Fourth Church is a beacon for so many other churches. Your co-pastor must be someone who matches John Buchanan in religious depth and leadership. Joanna is definitely the right choice."

--Barbara Wheeler, President, Auburn Theological Seminary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Joanna Adams brings energy and deep commitment to the work of ministry. She will engage both heart and mind with her preaching. She will lead with compassion and courgae. We are fortunate to have Joanna as a new partner for ministry in this great city."

--Cynthia Campbell, President, McCormick Theological Seminary, and friend of Fourth Church
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Joanna Adams is a noted preacher, fine pastor, and highly effective Presbyterian leader. Her ministry at Trinity Presbyterian Church, throughout the city of Atlanta, and in our demonination has been outstanding--a strong and faithful witness to justice and hope. Her gifts and commitments to worship, nurture, and the ministry of the church in the city will serve Fourth Presbyterian Church's vision in outstanding ways, leading it to a bright future by GOD's grace. Congratulations and blessings."

--John Wilkinson, Pastor, Third Presbyterian Church, Rochester, N.Y., and former Executive Associate Pastor of Fourth Church

Joanna Adams' Beliefs

"I believe in the universality of Christ's church and in the need for us to learn from people of faith who are different from ourselves.

"I believe that people of other faiths--even people with no faith at all--are not excluded from GOD's saving love. Indeed, people who do not bear the name of Christ can and often do bear the Spirit of Christ."

The above proves that intellect or reason can be all vanity when compared with Truth.

Christ Jesus our GOD is Truth, and true Christians believe or trust all His inerrant word.

GOD's word is fully believed by very few, proving faithful to His commands Mat19:17 Heb5:9.

Jn14:6...Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Acts4:8...Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel:
9 "If we this day are judged for a good deed to (a) helpless man, by what means he has been made well,
10 "Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom GOD raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.
11 "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.'
12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

GOD has purged 4th Pres.
of a fruitless, unworthy preacher Jer23:1,39,40.

Mat16..24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Mat19..23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of GOD.

25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved?

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with GOD all things are possible.
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?
28 So Jesus said to them, Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

Deciding her job in Chicago and her husband in Atlanta were too far apart, the Rev. Joanna Adams is resigning as co-pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church.

Her last official workday will be New Year's Eve at the historic church, whose call she answered two years ago this month.

The plan was for Adams to take over the 4,700 member church on Michigan Avenue when her co-pastor, the Rev. Paul M. Buchanan, 63, retired.

Adams, 59, could not be reached for comment. But Buchanan said she was leaving because she was seeing too little of her husband, Al, an Atlanta attorney. It was hoped he would be able to spend most of his time in Chicago, "but that not only didn't happen but didn't show any signs of happening," Buchanan said.

"He was a litigator all week long and she was at the church all weekend, and there was not anything left for them."
