Behe's "irreducible complexity," which he defines as "a single system which is necessarily composed of several, well-matched, interacting parts that contribute to the basic function and where the removal of any one of the parts causes the system to effectively cease functioning."

    "The best and most striking example of design" is the bacterial flagellum, "the outboard motor bacteria use to swim." He projected a drawing of a flagellum depicting what he called a "rotary motor" attached to a "drive shaft" that pushes a propeller, and said it was impossible to avoid concluding that the mechanism was "a purposeful arrangement of parts."

    "Design relies on physical, empirical, observable evidence from nature plus logical inferences."
 
    "We infer design when parts appear to be arranged for a purpose," he said, noting that the more parts involved, in a process such as blood clotting, for example, the more confidence there is in a design component.
 
    "The appearance of design in aspects of biology is overwhelming," he said, adding that because nothing other than an intelligent cause has been able to yield such a strong appearance of design, the concept of design is "rationally justified."
 

    Templeton-funded proponents of intelligent design include Christopher Macosko, a professor of chemical engineering at University of Minnesota. Mr. Macosko, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, became a born-again Christian as an assistant professor after a falling-out with a business partner. For eight years, he's taught a freshman seminar: "Life: By Chance or By Design?" According to Mr. Macosko, "All the students who finish my course say, 'Gee, I didn't realize how shaky evolution is.' "

    I feel obliged to point out what would otherwise be superfluous - that the two greatest scientists in the history of our species were Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, and they were both religious. Newton's religiosity was traditional. He was a staunch believer in Christianity and member of the Church of England. Einstein's was a more diffuse belief in a deity who set the rules for everything that occurs in the universe.
 
    Neither saw science as an enemy of religion. On the contrary. "He believed he was doing God's work," wrote James Gleick in his recent biography of Newton. Einstein saw his entire vocation - understanding the workings of the universe - as an attempt to understand the mind of God.
 
    Not a crude and willful God who pushes and pulls and does things according to whim. Newton was trying to supplant the view that first believed the sun's motion around the Earth was the work of Apollo and his chariot, and later believed it was a complicated system of cycles and epicycles, one tacked upon the other every time some wobble in the orbit of a planet was found. Newton's God was not at all so crude. The laws of his universe were so simple, so elegant, so economical, and therefore so beautiful that they could only be divine.

18 For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD, and has perceived and heard His word? Who has marked His word and heard?
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury - a violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

44 And in the days of these kings the GOD of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold - the great GOD has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.
 
Rev2..26 "And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations -
27 'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; they shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels' - as I also have received from My Father;
28 And I will give him the morning star.

Is10..16 Therefore the LORD, the LORD of hosts, will send leanness among his fat ones; and under his glory he will kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

17 So the Light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.   (1Cor3:12-15)
18 And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they will be as when a sick man wastes away.
19 Then the rest of the trees of his forest will be so few in number that a child may write them.
20 And it shall come to pass in that day the remnant of Israel, and such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, will never again depend on him who defeated them, but will depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty GOD. (Rom9-11 again)
22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them will return; the destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 For the LORD GOD of hosts will make a determined end in the midst of all the land.
24 Therefore thus says the LORD GOD of hosts: "O My people, who dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian. He shall strike you with a rod and lift up his staff against you, in the manner of Egypt."
